I installed this opener to my gate system that was not a Mighty Mule brand. I followed the instructions and trenched a section and ran the cable through a PVC pipe and up into the box. The installation instructions asked to wire it to both the battery and to the chip-board, but I was able to connect just to the chip board in an empty section specifically for a gate sensor. It worked right away and I've had it several months now with no problems. It is great!
It's great for people to have a way out without pressing a key pad or using a remote to open the gate. I chose this gate opener because it didn't require putting it into the driveway pad.
My gate is powered by solar power and a battery and it works together.
Warning: keep in mind that your tractor or mower will set it off, so be careful, and it will not stop your gate from shutting on something.

1) Bury it 2 feet deep! It needs the electro magnetic field of the ground to work
2) Set the first dip switch on the Mighty Mule opener to the "up" position otherwise, the opener will close when you want it to open and vice versa
3) Connect the low voltage wiring to the ground on the battery not any ground wires on the opener
We didn't follow any of these instructions when we first installed it and had to call tech support to find out how "touchy" it is!
The fastest close speed that we were able to set the opener and sensor to is about 30 seconds.

This device works exactly as described. It is so nice for any visitor to drive up to the gate to exit and 'Bingo' it opens. We do not have to make sure we are there with a remote to open the gate for them. It is HANDS FREE operation!!
Paired with the close feature of the Mighty Mule gate opener it is truly automatic for exit and closure.
Installation was simple and straight forward with no surprises. The most difficult part was digging the trench for the wand and the wires.
We are extremely pleased with this option to Mighty Mule gate opener. Money was well spent.
