By goodolboy
This opener is fairly easy to install, with mostly well-illustrated instructions overall, in spite of a couple of inconsistencies in the installation manual's text and in the parts drawings. The text instructions seem likely to have been written by someone who speaks English as a FIRST language too, which is unusual these days, and which helps to speed things along....The actual assembly of the main components and wiring the system are a breeze.
The quality of the parts OVERALL seems decent, although I noticed that a significantly lighter weight steel and smaller gauge fasteners are used for the bracketry and rail system than had been used with my older 1/3hp chain driven unit (20-25 years) which had also been Chamberlain-(Sears private labeled) model. That may be a part of why this new one still flexes considerably-in spite of the square cross section of the new rail (vs "t" section) and is actually louder in operation than the old one had been.
Also, perhaps one of the MOST important parts, the emergency release lever (which is the part actually being pulled on by the hand rope and handle) is one of only 2 parts of the entire assembly of rail/guide/bracketry/etc. that is necessary for opening the door manually, IS MADE OF PLASTIC. If this part breaks, even if the door is very well balanced, the door can't be opened without tools. Why they chose to penny-pinch on the design and manufacture of this particular EMERGENCY-RELATED part is beyond me. Of course, the main pulley is now plastic too, so if THAT part breaks, the door can't be opened automatically......
Another thing to note: Be sure to check that ALL the parts are actually there prior to beginning installation as, even with a replacement installation, unless you have a good hardware selection on hand as I do, you may not have available a usable substitute for a missing bolt, nut, etc., which could delay or interrupt the installation.
As previously mentioned, this model uses a snap-together square rail system rather than a bolt-together one, and it isn't compatible with some/most older "t" bar systems-other than possibly reusing some of the old rail and motor housing mounting bracketry/arms/etc., so even if it's a replacement for an existing opener, you can expect it to likely take just about as much time and effort as if you were doing a new installation from scratch, especially if your original one hadn't been perfectly aligned or well-installed, which I discovered had been the case with ours.
The adjustments for door opening and closing position and for operating FORCE, are well explained and easy to follow. The remote and wired openers all operate as explained. Being in the warmer and a rural part of the country, I tweak the closing point adjustment for the door to be slightly ajar in the Summer to allow better convection cooling of our garage and to be snugly closed in the Winter. It takes about 30 seconds to change from one season's setting to the other-IF you mark the settings in some way.

By Debora Kurzrok Doyle
My husband who is quite handy thought this product was not so easy to install. It really depends on your door and your current setup. The door sensor does not mount to the rail because our garage door hardware that extends beyond the track. In that case, you need creativity to mount the sensors to the garage walls(oftentimes concrete walls). The door won't work without the sensors. We had little clearance in the ceiling area. The directions state that you need two inches, but because of the hardware, you actually need a good 4 inches from the ceiling which we did not have. Also be sure to read the directions completely before you start as my husband made at least two trips to the hardware store in addition to his initial trip. Be sure to read the directions about reinforcing the door if it is not a solid door. You will need bracing for the door which will require some creativity.
Afterall is said and done, the door works well, quieter than our previous door, but installation was no easy chore for usChamberlain PD210D Power Drive 1/2-Horsepower Security-Plus Chain-Drive Garage Door Opener, Blue and White.

By Richard D Haney
The opener is a good quality. It will not support cfl lighting but a bulb is okay with me. The door button is big and has a separate light switch. I like this opener better than the screw drive I normally put in my rentals,it's a higher quality and it's not as loud.
